Fashion Design Competition
1
Themes
Are you ready to make a statement with your creativity? This is your chance to design, create, and showcase a unique piece that reflects our rich heritage and modern innovation.
Enter the competition and choose to submit in one of these three categories:
🇿🇼 Modern Zimbabwean Fusion
A contemporary twist on traditional elements, blending Zimbabwean heritage with global fashion trends. This category challenges designers to create fashion-forward pieces that seamlessly blend Zimbabwean heritage with modern global trends. The goal is to celebrate traditional elements while making them relevant, wearable, and stylish in today’s fashion landscape. Designers who want to push creative boundaries by reimagining Zimbabwean fashion for today’s world—whether through high fashion, everyday wear, or experimental statement pieces. The goal is to honour the past while shaping the future of Zimbabwean fashion.
🇿🇼 A Cultural Homecoming
Imagine you are going back to Zimbabwe, to the rural areas. What would you wear? Design a wearable piece that embodies comfort, functionality, and cultural significance for a trip to rural Zimbabwe. This category tells the story of returning to one’s ancestral home, embracing tradition, and reconnecting with heritage. The journey to the village is more than just a trip; it’s a symbolic return to culture, family, and identity. This category challenges designers to create an outfit that embodies the essence of homecoming, weaving in elements of tradition, nostalgia, and modern comfort.
🇿🇼 Uncolonised Zimbabwe: A Fashion Reimagined
Imagine a world where Zimbabwe was never colonised—where indigenous creativity, craftsmanship, and textile innovation shaped everyday wear without Western influences. This theme challenges designers to redefine Zimbabwean fashion by envisioning how people would dress today if traditional materials, techniques, and cultural aesthetics had continued to evolve organically without external disruption.
Designers must craft a piece of clothing that embodies Zimbabwean identity in a world untouched by colonial influence, offering a fresh, forward-thinking approach to indigenous fashion. Would Zimbabwean attire be minimalist and earthy? Vibrant and heavily adorned? Functional yet symbolic? This is a chance to rewrite fashion history and design the future from an alternate past.
